Rocks in Action Down Under
We've just heard from our friends in Australia that the 2010 Rocks are going down a treat out in the Western Australian surf. Click on the picture to catch a couple snippets of Australian hotshot Ben Arthur in action down at Margaret River captured in superb quality by helecopter.
Look out for the green sail 1m09s and 1m39s into the movie.
The new collection has landed with Second Wind Sailboards in Perth, WA and at Watercooled Sports, Dunedin, New Zealand. If you're in Europe waiting for the 2010 Tushingham range, the wait is almost over! Sails are on the sea right now and are due to land before the end of the month.

Barbados Shoot Success
 Back in December 2009 most of our team headed out to the beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados, accompanied by top photographer Alex Williams to capture images of our new 2010 collection, which you'll find in the Gallery.
Almost the moment the guys stepped off the aeroplane the waves picked up and the trade winds kicked in, allowing almost a full week of ACTION. In addition to the excellent wave sailing, we had some fantastic coastal blasting, road trips, SUP surfing and some memorable nights out.
George and Muzza have plenty of stories that they'll be telling over the coming months, in the magazines and with video clips. Keep your eyes peeled for their antics, sure to make great entertainment!
 Every one of us had a fantastic trip, with superb waves right on our doorstep, great weather and calloused hands from all the sailing! Barbados is a wonderful location to take a non-windsurfing partner too with stunning beaches all around the island.
A big thank you to the Barbados Tourist Board and to Brian Talma, who operates a successful watersports centre at Silver Rock, where you'll find plenty of windsurf, kitesurf, surf and SUP equipment to rent.

New Discipline Brings Instant Success
 Tushingham rider Marie Buchanan has stormed to victory at the UK's most famous annual wave sailing competition - the Tiree Wave Classic.
Using a Tushingham Rock 4.7m, Marie used her formidable strength to power out through the whitewater in tricky gusty conditions. This allowed her plenty of time to select the best waves of the heats while her rivals were struggling. It was her first ever wave competition, in a ladies fleet that included National Champion Louise Emery and Student Champion Tanya Saleh. She commented:
 “I can’t believe I have won a wave competition, especially one as famous as the Tiree Wave Classic! It was hard work as the winds were offshore with big holes between the gusts but the waves were good. Thanks to the organisers and to everyone who has encouraged me to have a go here. The event has been an incredible experience!”
Marie is making fast progress in the waves by combining her ability to handle rig power (from years of racing) with her rapidly developing surfing skills as a SUP rider in the Starboard team. With a winter training programme that will include a month in Australia, she's hoping for further success in the waves in 2010! |

Sam Sills voted Windsurfer of the Year!
 Highlight of the UK Windsurfing Association's annual end of season ball and presentations was the awarding of the Windsurfer of the Year trophy. The winner, after a public vote was a popular choice - Techno 293 World Champion Sam Sills (pictured). Sam not only won the World Title but also clearly won every UK Cup event he took part in and put in commendable displays on slalom kit at both the National Windsurfing Festival and the Poole Windfest.
Not to be outdone, younger sister Saskia picked up the Young Windsurfer of the Year trophy, following a fantastic silver at the Techno Europeans and even better... victory at the Worlds! Well done to sister Imogen too who was close behind.
Sam now steps up to the new challenges of the one-design RS-X fleet for 2010. When time allows between racing and training he'll looking for wave and slalom action, where he's just kitted himself out with the latest Starboard and Tushingham gear for the new season. |
XR-Race Success in UK Cup Series
The weekend of 31st October and 1st November saw the culmination of the UKWA Cup series in Portland Harbour, Dorset, England. Over the season the UK Raceboard fleet saw forty races across five events. No less than sixty-two competitors took part in highly competitive racing in a huge range of wind and water conditions with even more racing on the 'Inland' circuit.
The UK Raceboard fleet has doubled in numbers this year - a very healthy sign for this class. It now has the biggest number of participants in any racing (excluding the Techno OD Class). In its first full season of competition the Tushingham 9.5m XR-Race sail has seen countless victories and taken first and second place in the overall results. The 8.5m sail has fared well for the ladies as well with success for Annette Kent and Marie Buchanan in various competitions.
